When I was younger, there was freedom. Freedom to be creative, to daydream, to enjoy the simplicity of life without constant noise. Back then, I didn’t have endless options at my fingertips.
Today, it’s different. With every scroll, my heart races and my mind spins. The overload of everything makes it hard to breathe. Sometimes, I wonder how much rewiring my brain has gone through because of doom-scrolling.
I’ve noticed this pattern — when I carry a book with me, my nervous system softens. I remember when people used to pull out books instead of phones. Losing yourself in one story, one character, one event… it grounds you.
Scrolling, on the other hand, never feels like “enough.” It’s a cycle that pulls you in deeper. And while quitting cold turkey gives me a rush of nostalgia — a glimpse of my old self — before long, as Al Pacino said: “Every time I try to get out, I get pulled right back in.”
The truth is, living in today’s world is a struggle. Every day we’re flooded with distractions, obligations, and noise. It takes real energy to stay grounded.
That’s why intention matters.
When we give attention to our habits, when we ask “Where am I putting my energy? Who do I want to be?” — everything shifts.
Self-care isn’t a luxury anymore. It’s a survival skill.
